Our volunteer days are in full swing! Come out and join us on our farm. Make it a solo day or bring your friends and family out. Volunteer days are great for all ages! Our full Volunteer schedule can be found below. All events listed here are up to date.

Come volunteer with us! Below you will find a current listing of our volunteer events. If you’d like to bring a group out, let us know! We can arrange a separate event. To get the ball rolling on your group event, fill out an interest form here.
All new volunteers, for the year, must fill out a liability form. You will be prompted to fill out this form before your first event with us for the year. It can be returned to us electronically at volunteer@mevo.org or brought to a volunteer event.
Please note that if you sign up after 8 pm on the night before the event, please email Jacob at jacob@mevo.org to receive the pertinent information for the next day.

Young Growers Series: Farm to Table Salsa and Pesto
Best for ages 5 to 12
Get ready to chop, blend, and taste your way through this fun, hands-on Salsa & Pesto Making Workshop! Join our educators Lauren and Taylor in using fresh, seasonal ingredients—many straight from the garden—you’ll learn how to make two classic favorites that are bursting with flavor and easy to recreate at home.
Perfect for home cooks, gardeners, and food lovers of all levels!
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
How to make fresh tomato salsa (plus tips for customizing heat and texture)
How to craft a traditional basil pesto (and creative variations!)
Herb and produce prep tips for best flavor and shelf life
Basic food safety and simple storage methods
Ideas for serving, pairing, and preserving your creations

Young Growers Series: Garden Natural Remedies
Learn how to turn garden-grown herbs into soothing salves in this hands-on healing salve workshop! Perfect for beginners and herbal-curious makers, educators Lauren and Taylor will guide you through the process of creating your own all-natural healing salves for cuts, scrapes, dry skin, and more.
In this workshop, you’ll discover:
Common healing herbs (like calendula, comfrey, lavender & plantain) and their skin benefits
How to infuse oils with herbs for medicinal use
Step-by-step instructions for crafting your own salve

Fall Wild Food Walk
Come to our Fresh Roots Farm on October 12 from 3:30-5 pm to attend a Wild Food Walk. Plants covered in this course will include Chickweed, Dandelion, Black Walnut, Hickory Nut, Burdock, Mugwort, and more. Learn how we can take fall forest and field abundance into our kitchens through this walk. We will learn how to safely ID and use a handful of plants.

Immune Boosters Workshop
Learn about immune supportive and immunomodulating herbs like elderberry, echinacea, kitchen cabinet herbs, and more to help bolster your immune system during the winter months. We will discuss the importance of herbs in our daily immune health and make some fun creations along the way! We will be making:

Buzz, flutter, and bloom! Kids and parents are invited to a fun, hands-on workshop all about native wildflowers and the amazing pollinators they support.
Discover the powerful partnership between native wildflowers and pollinators in this engaging, informative workshop! Perfect for gardeners, nature lovers, educators, and conservationists, this session explores how planting wildflowers can help support bees, butterflies, birds, and other essential pollinators, as well as the importance of pollinators to food systems.
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
The importance of pollinators to ecosystems and food systems
How native wildflowers attract and sustain pollinator populations

Best for ages 12 and up
Join us for a hands-on fall garden workshop designed to help gardeners of all levels make the most of the autumn season! Whether you're a seasoned grower or just getting started, this workshop will cover everything you need to know about planning, planting, and maintaining a thriving fall garden.
In this workshop, you’ll learn:
The best vegetables and flowers to plant in the fall
Soil preparation and composting techniques
Extending your growing season with row covers
Fall garden maintenance and pest control
Harvesting tips and preparing your garden for winter

6/28 Saturday Garlic Harvest
Join us for our annual garlic harvest, our biggest harvest of the year! Our garlic was planted in November as individual cloves and now is ready to make its way out of the field. We need MANY hands for this event to help us
1.) Pull Garlic from the field
2.) Trim and peel the garlic (we trim off the stems and roots and peel an outer layer of skin to remove any dirt)
3.) Organize the garlic for its curing (drying process).
Where: Lovewell Farm (40 Peterson). Please use the gravel driveway, NOT the paved driveway to enter the site. Park on the grass.
When 6/28:
Morning: 9:30am-12:30pm

We do not have access to indoor bathrooms but do have plenty of wood!
There are two locations to access running drinking water for both washing up and refilling your water bottle.
FAQs:
Q: Who can come?
A: Anyone! The garlic pulling is great for little ones and those who can't stand for too long can help peel garlic in the shade!
Q: What happens if it rains?
A: We will have to reschedule, garlic needs to be harvested on a dry day.
Q: Can I buy some garlic there?
A: We will send everyone home with at least one head! If you'd like more, we may ask you to make a contribution, depending on how many volunteers are there.

Spring Wild Food Walk
Every plant has a purpose (even those we may think of as weeds)! In this class, we will celebrate some of the first plants to wake up in the spring.
You’ll learn to distinguish a few of these plants amongst all the spring greenery and learn how to put them to use in your kitchen. This walk will be led by Violet Reed and held at our Fresh Roots Farm on April 13th from 3-4:30pm. Plants covered in this course will include nutrition-packed wild edibles like chickweed, purple dead nettle, garlic mustard, dandelion, and more.

11/11 GARLIC PLANTING!
Join us for the most wonderful time of year, garlic planting! Come out to Lovewell Farm to help us plant our 2024 crop. The day will consist of planting the garlic as well as mulching the crop with leaf mulch. Please note, garlic planted is often complete by the morning shift and we move onto mulching in the afternoon.
