CSA Menu

Why CSA?

CSA is a direct-to-customer business model for farmers. In the traditional CSA model, people pay for a season’s worth of produce (a share), sometimes months in advance. The CSA member then receives a box of fruits and vegetables every week throughout the harvesting season. This is great for the farmers because they get the revenue when they most need it to get ready for the growing season. It is an investment in supporting MEVO, the Fresh Roots Farm, and our Farmers.

At MEVO with thrive on community. We believe that one of the best ways to make social change is by building community around our vision for an ecologically sustainable future. Naturally, having a family of MEVO friends and local food enthusiasts supporting our organization by buying into a CSA is an outstanding way of bringing people together. Buying a share will give us the money we need upfront and frees us up to focus on growing the highest quality food possible – instead of worrying about selling the food each week. It also allows us to build a more personal relationship with each of you and get to know what you liked, didn’t like, and what type of food we can grow for next year.

How to purchase a CSA share

We are only accepting check or cash for our shares this year. You can purchase a share from MEVO by mailing a check for $800 to MEVO’s office address: 1024 Ash Drive Mahwah, NJ 07430 please include a name, e-mail, cell phone number, home phone number, and home address for the person who reserved this share. If you are splitting the share, please include the contact information of each party.

What are we Growing?

The list below is tentative but here is what we are planning to be growing at the Fresh Roots Farm this year. Not all of these fruits and veggies will be in the CSA box each week.

What if your crop fails or there is extreme weather?

As a CSA member you share in the risk and reward of a successful harvest year. If we have a bounty of excess food you can expect your box to be loaded up. If we have a failure of a crop or extreme weather destroys the farm than the food we lost will not be available and the cost of the CSA share will not be refunded.

Who are the farmers?

MEVO is a youth lead organization which means our farmers are young people. Our Farm Manager is Isabel Arrieche and our other Farmer and beekeeper is our Executive Director Eric J. Fuchs-Stengel. Isabel and Eric work with a team of volunteers and interns to grow all the food produced at the Fresh Roots Farm. You can learn more about them on the, “Our People,” page.

Notes from our farmers

-Honey is included every 3rd week, so you will receive at least 8 jars throughout the season.
-Every 6th week we will take off. This will allow you to clear out your fridge and it coincides with our internship trips and scheduled events.
-Eggs are received from Hazelman Farms in West Milford on a bi-weekly basis. Eggs of this quality cost about $5-7 per dozen at the supermarket.
-You may add an extra Egg Share (add another dozen, bi-weekly) for an additional $75.
-Produce types, quantities and qualities vary throughout the season.
-At certain times throughout the season, you may have more than you can eat. Please prepare to freeze, dry, or can some items for future use. Please do your best not to throw any of our items in the garbage, if something has gone bad…COMPOST IT! No compost at home? Bring it back to us when you pick up your share.
