Plant family: Asteraceae

General info: Alphas are bright orange and used extensively in culinary dishes. Their petals are edible and can be digested raw or fried. Not recommended to eat the center of the flower or calyx.

Days to harvest: 50 to 55 days or once flowers are wide open, removing the petals before eating.

Sun and spacing: Direct sun/part shade and 6-12’’ spacing

Common pests: Aphids and whiteflies

Other: Alphas contain a high amount of resin which can be used for medicinal purposes, such as cuts or burns.
