MEVO has been granted permission to use a 90-foot abandoned greenhouse at Lottie’s Farm in Mahwah, a preserved farmfield just down the road from Fresh Roots Farm. The greenhouse would make up for lost fieldspace following our exit from Lovewell, providing protection from deer and a longer growing season for tomatoes and other crops. It would also serve as a nursery for our Spring Plant Sale and Seedling Donation Program in which we donate food plant seedlings to local startup farms and community gardens.

The greenhouse has been out of use for ten years and needs a lot of repair before it will be ready for use. We are raising $15,000 to reframe the base and endwalls; install a new water pump, electrical, fans, ventilation hardware, and greenhouse plastic; remove the gravel floor and add soil to create growing beds. This greenhouse is the way forward for MEVO’s Fresh Roots Farming Program.
