Market Garden

Our farm exercises a market-garden style farming as used by modern farming pioneers like J.M Fortier of Les Jardins de la Grelinette, Eliot Coleman of Four Season Farm, and Curtis Stone of Green City Acres. Market Gardening promotes small-scale (usually 5 acres or less) intensive agricultural practices with minimal machinery use for crop cultivation. The Fresh Roots Farm crew tends to our crops with hand tools like the broadfork, tilther, hoe, and other tools that promote intimate farmer to crop interaction while keeping the soil structure intact through no-till practices. Market Gardening encourages high profits on a small but sustainably tended piece of land, therefore showcasing long-term profitable regenerative agriculture; a perfect model to showcase in our environmental organization.
